Interesting Fact: If you score the CIF Finals as a dual meet between Saugus and Canyon
the score is Canyon 29 Saugus 28 (we lose by 1 point, the same as league meet #2).
Canyon 30 Loyola 27 (We lose by 3) Canyon 29 Claremont 28 (lose by 1)
Canyon 31 Valencia 29 (we lose by 2)   What does this mean?  IF any ONE of our runners
runs a few seconds faster and passes a couple of runners from each of the 4 teams
ranked ahead of us, we will be on the PODIUM!!!  "IF" is a BIG word in XC!

Alumni Update (Nov 8, 2009)

This from Anthony Pizzo:

Hey Coach, I found the results of my conference meet and I figured I'd share them with you.

http://www.proracegroup.com/gsac09/mover.html

I was told go out in this race and try to hang on
as best I could even if I was alone. I did end up separating from the field (besides the Kenyan who
is considered the fastest of the NAIA by some) by 12 seconds through most of the first two miles.
At the end, I did end up getting caught by a Westmont guy and ran a time that is unacceptable at
best. I have no complaints though because I ran like that to give my team the best chance it had.
Unfortunately, we did not move on as a team to the NAIA National Championship, we finished
5th with our top five finishers all being freshmen. Our top three finishers were in the first twenty
finishers, and my teammate John Gilbertson and I both received All-Conference honors being 14th
and 3rd respectively. Despite the team not moving on, which is disappointing, I do move on to the
National Championship as an Individual qualifier. On the 21st, I will be traveling to Vancouver,
WA as one of the fastest freshmen in the nation to compete against the best the NAIA has to offer.
Best of luck to the girls and boys teams in CIF, I've been really excited for you guys this entire season.
I'll keep you updated after Nats. Good Luck, Anthony Pizzo

Below is a letter sent to our City from one of our parents, Steven Low, regarding the Foothill
League Cross Country programs,

This past weekend, Cross Country Teams from the local Santa Clarita Valley High Schools
showed everyone at the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational that the Santa Clarita Valley
produces some of the top Cross Country runners in the State as well as the Nation at the
High School level.

Here is how some of the Santa Clarita Valley teams fared at the Mt. SAC Cross Country
Invitational, which is the nation’s largest cross country invitational. The Mt. SAC Cross
Country Course is one of the oldest (62 years) and most famed courses in the world,
challenging generations of runners against each other. This year, in the Girls Division
there were 495 High Schools with 4642 runners entered in races. The Boys had 507
High schools with 6730 runners entered in races. High school runners came from the
States of California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Hawaii, Alabama, New York, and
Washington to participate in this year’s races. There was also a team from the Country
of Ireland and Canada entered in some of the races.
