Division II Girls RESULTS

Here's how the Foothill League teams faired today. Every School except West Ranch Qualified For Finals!
Our Girls Ran Great, placing 4th in their heat. We improved our Mt SAC team time (5 best times of season)
to 94:50 which is the 3rd fastest in the history of our team.
Zach Wims failed to qualify for finals running a 15:52 good for 18th place. He had a bit of bad luck, tripping 3/4 mile
into the race. He was 6th at the time and never fully recovered.

Mt SAC Results are not yet available due to some computer malfunctions at the meet. I was told not to exptect them
until Monday morning. Hopefully, they will fix the problem soon. However, I want to say that the coaching staff was
VERY pleased with our efforts today. The weather cooperated and some very good times were run. Jason Hillquist
is "unofficially" a "LEGEND" running a pr in about 15:22. Zach Wims was our second finishter in 15:34 and is also now
officially a LEGEND!

Valeria Soto was our top girl and she just missed the 18:35 cutoff (AGAIN). Our girls team placed 3rd in our race with at
95:35 team time. This is 5th on our "All Time List!" and the fastest a Canyon team has run since 2003! Our boys were 6th
in their race with at team time of 80:31. Had the boys been in any other division 2 race, they would have won. Photos HERE.
We find out when we get to the meet that it is on the internet LIVE This would have been nice to know before the meet.

Alumni Update: Timothy Gonzales (Southern Oregon University) raced at the Beaver Classic Invitational Meet in Corvallis, Oregon.
He finished the 8k in 39th place out of 147 in a time of 26:05. Finishing 9th for the SOU team which secured his spot
for the Cascade Conference Championships Meet in 2 weeks. The Conference meet is prelims to the NAIA National
Championships. He will need to place in the top 8 on his team in order to get to the Championships.

Valeria Soto #1 Cowboy! School course record 18:29.

Notice that Valeria's time of 18:29 was good enough to be our #8 Varsity Boy! I have never seen only
7 boys not be PINK! in my 39 years as a cross country coach! Needless to say our boys JV and FS teams placed 6th.
This is also a new girls school course record! (Thanks to the Hart coach designing the 9th different course in the past 9 seasons).
In League #1 Valeria finished 18th but moved up to 8th yesterday! Notice that nearly every girl improved her
place in league. Our Girls Varsity place 4th behind Saugus, West Ranch, and Valencia, beating Golden Valley by 1.
We will need a big effort at Mt SAC this Saturday, and hopefully be at full strength. If we are ranked in
the top 13 (I think) for two weeks, we might possibly get into CIF Prelims as an at large team. Otherwise,
we must finish at least 3rd in the Boys and 2nd in the girls at League Finals to qualify for CIF. I believe
we can do this with confident racing and good training the last half of the season.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the 2nd place finish by our girls F/S team. We beat West Ranch by 1 point.
We were led by freshmen Stephanie Martinez and Vanessa King, and sophomores Malissa Janes, and Ariana Saenz!

Our JV girls team was led by Melissa Gomez 7th place in 21:26 in her first race of the season. Kristi Goodspeed
had another PR running 22:22 for 14th place (she finished 36th in her first league meet!)

From CIF Ranking: Notes: People should not take the Saugus dynasty’s opening-month success for granted. There are many
new faces to the varsity lineup this fall and those newbies are very deserving of respect and praise. The names may change but
the level of sacrifice and quality of work ethic sure hasn’t… The next three teams have all shown the potential to threaten

We ran our FS and JV Teams at SeaSide in Ventura and had a good time, literally! We saw lots of athletes compete for the first
time in a Cross Country Race. The Coaches were pleased with the effort and progress the team is making.

better PHOTO on Dyestat Cal and now HERE
The star of the show was sophomore Caleb Mc Clain who ran an incredible 15:44 to finish 7th in the Sophomore race.
Last year in this meet he ran 20:23 and took 130th place in the Freshman Race! That's a 4:39 PR! WOW!!

Senior, Ian Cunningham also showed incredible improvement. This is his 4th race at SeaSide. His progression since his
Freshman year is 22:44, 18:39, 19:13, and this year 17:08! This is nearly a 2 minute improvement over last year.

Our top Girl in the races was Freshman Vanessa King who ran an impressive 20:38 for her first High School race of her
young career. This effort is after very limited training one the last month or so, as she is nursing an injury.

Daily News XC Preview has our Girls ranked 4th and Boys 9th.

Team Photos will be next Wednesday (Sept. 12th).
Before the photo, if you wish to purchase photos (OR NOT)
please bring a complete FORM. (Please print and fill out).
If you wish to purchase also bring cash or check to give to the photographer.

In the Pre-Season CIF Rankings our Girls are ranked 7th in Division 2 (Saugus #1).
Our Boys are unranked (Hart #9). LINK

Uniform Info (Must be purchased by Sept. 4, 2012)

Our 2012 Schedule has been finalized.

Team pictures will be taken on Wed Sept 12th at Central Park. (If you have a cowboy hat we can use for the day, please contact coach Broneer)
Be in uniform and bring your envelope if you wish to purchase photos.

Late Start Wednesdays. To beat the heat we will run before school every Wednesday. People who have a 1st period will start at 6:30 and those
who don't will start at 7:15. We will be doing a long zone and try to finish in under an hour. The only Wednesdays that we don't have late starts
are the week of Labor Day (Sept. 5th), Fall Break (Oct 3rd) and (Oct. 17th). If athletes cannot attend the morning run, they will meet and do the
workout 7th period. (Injured athletes will meet 7th period with coach Broneer and probably lift weights or bike).

This was in today's Daily Bulletin: STUDENTS REQUESTING OFF CAMPUS PASSES please bring a note from a parent and take it to the
attendance office before school, at brunch or lunch to receive your permit to leave. If you do not have a note...parents must call the office in
the morning and request a pass. Juniors and Seniors...most of you are through with school at lunch time... remember to make your appointments
after you have finished with your school day.

4 waves totalling 369 triathletes competed in our event yesterday!

Coach Broneer survived his first "post hip replacement" Triathlon placing
2nd in his age group!

Thanks to all the parents and team members who volunteered their time this Saturday!
We had 369 partipants and 21 more in the kids race. This was the best turnout we have
ever had for Tri I. We are expecting more for Tri II on August 11th. So, please save the
date, as we will need your (now expert) help again. If any of you have pictures, please
share.

Beach Run (16 miler from Hollywood Bowl to Santa Monica Beach) was lots of fun!

Tomorrow, Monday July 16th at 7:00 am we will be heading by car and team van to the Hollywood
Bowl for our annual run to the beach. So far, two parents have volunteered to help drive.
Karen Goodspeed and Ed Chow. Coach Broneer's car holds 6, and the Team Van 15. so if
no other drivers volunteer we will be forced to leave about a dozen kids back. Please email coach
if you can drive.

Athletes: Tomorrow is Monday, so know your Mileage total for week #6!
Bring your watch, Swim Suit, towel, sun screen, money for lunch (or a lunch) and
whatever else you want to play with at the beach.
